1. Research
Research the breed, make sure a Labrador Retriever is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
2. Contact
Email us and tell us about your family, lifestyle, history with dogs, and what you are looking for in your next dog. *If you are a breeder wanting to add a dog to your program, please tell us about yourself, your program, and your goals. You must health test your dogs, and hold the very same standards as we have set. We are happy to help mentor in any way we can.
3. Retainer
After we agree that a TPL puppy is a great fit for you, we will send you a retainer agreement. Then you will place a non-refundable retainer for a current litter or an upcoming litter. We will help you with the various ways you can do so. Your retainer will go towards the total price of your puppy. Retainers do not expire. If something comes up, please do not hesitate to reach out. We will place your retainer on hold until you are ready. *TPL Reserves the right to hold back first pick male or female for our own breeding program. All picks are first come, first serve. We go by the date you secured the retainer. Yay! We are so excited to welcome you to the Tall Pine Labrador Family!
4. Updates
Get weekly updates on your puppy! Don’t forget to join our Facebook group, we post a lot of updates there for everyone to see.
5. Picking your Puppy
We start puppy picks at six weeks of age, after the first set of vaccinations. Puppy picks can take place at our home (outside), over video chat, or videos/pictures. Whatever works best for your family we can try to accommodate and will contact you to schedule a time.
6. Prepare for your Puppy
Schedule your puppy’s first well puppy exam for a day or two after pick up. We recommend when scheduling this appointment, to also schedule future vaccination appointments. Vet appointments are becoming difficult to make, and planning ahead sets you up for success. It’s time to start preparing your home for your new puppy. Now is a great time to visit the favorites section on our website to see what we recommend for food, treats, toys, etc. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
7. Education
We will send an email with links to educational videos to help you with the proper care of your new puppy. Even as experienced pet owners ourselves, we’ve learned a lot through breeding. We want to set you and your new puppy up for success! In the past, we would sit down with every puppy family to cover all this information on the day of puppy pick-up. We have found that to be an overwhelming amount of information and time-consuming. Due to COVID-19, we wanted to limit this making the process safer and easier for you.
8. Puppy Pick-Up Day
Yay! The day you have been waiting for! We will schedule a time for you to pick up your puppy. Every puppy receives a bath and nail trimming before pick up. We will go over your puppy swag bag to include the necessary paperwork and final payment. Once completed, it’s time to take your puppy home! If you need transportation service, we will assist you with scheduling this ahead of time. The most common options are flight nannies or ground transportation. A flight nanny is a person that escorts your puppy from one airport to another for pick up. We can refer you to several great flight nannies that we work with on a regular basis. If your puppy is flying, full payment is due at six weeks of age so that these funds have time to clear through our financial institutions.
We look forward to working with you!
